Welcome to the Manx Bat Group website – the place for all things batty on the Isle of Man.

The Manx Bat Group brings together volunteers from across the Isle of Man interested in the conservation of Manx bats. We are a registered charity (no. 443) and are affiliated to the Bat Conservation Trust.

What does the Bat Group do?

Regular public bat walks throughout the summer to see bats around the Island.

Bat surveys of properties subject to planning applications.

Advice and information about Manx bats.

Database of bat and roost records for the Island.

Care and release of injured and grounded bats.

Bat awareness-raising and education events.

Want to help with bat conservation?

We are looking for volunteers to get involved in an exciting new project this summer to celebrate International Year of the Bat. All you need is enthusiasm and a little time. We will provide the equipment and training.

The bat monitoring project aims to help you find out more about the bats in your area and get you enthusiastic about helping us promote bat conservation on the island. We will provide training in using a bat detector, and you will learn how to distinguish bat feeding buzzes. You need to be able to do at least three hour-long surveys in an area of your choice in June, July and August 2012. But of course you can do more if you want to!

Sign up to Bat Search
Choose a 1km square area to survey, with 10 detection points
Get the training, equipment and support
Do your surveys and record your results
Join the party at the end!
